The Death of Ego – That Would Be Me

Paul said, in the New Testament, “I die daily.” And the verse so often quoted by believers is Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ, never the less, I live, not I but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live, I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”

Recently I was re-reading a book by the poplar author Eckhart Tolle. I often notice parallels between ancient or contemporary spiritual authors, and the teachings of the New Testament. Here’s what Tolle says,

” A powerful spiritual practice is consciously to allow the diminishment of ego when it happens without attempting to restore it. I recommend that you experiment with this from time to time. For example, when someone criticizes you, blames you, or calls you names, instead of immediately retaliating or defending yourself – do nothing……..you realize that nothing real has been diminished, that through becoming “less,” you become more.” A New Earth p.215.

This is one of those ideas that is easy to quote (scripture that is) – but fairly difficult to do. Give it some thought.
